Water Diving and ‘Mutthu Kuliyaal’ while Touring Philippines

“Mutthu kuliyaal” is the local name given to the act or pastime activity of Scuba diving and Snorkelling. All of these are intended at the popular activity of diving under water in the marina of the Philippine oceanfront. The weather conditions and the wave shifts of the water bodies surrounding the 7107 identified islands of the Philippine group have made deep sea diving a popular sport hereabouts. The other feature in favor of under water diving as a famous activity is the massive area covered by the coral reefs and sea sponge marine communities of the shallow coasts of most of the Philippine islands. In fact the community of coral polypus inhabiting the shallow waters is as old as nearly three hundred to four hundred years of time span. This is a tremendous achievement for the marina as the oceans around Philippines lie in a zone of active seismology and is prone to frequent disturbances and eruption. However other factors such as the point of meeting of two waves of contrary character have rendered the place a catchment area for the thriving of a vast variety of sea life.

Several governmental and nongovernmental institutions organize deep sea diving safaris and much of the tourist population takes advantage of this feature to enjoy the pleasure of seeing several of the under water creature that have never surfaced in the periphery of modern zoological aquariums. The winter is the best time for diving as the temperature is around a warming level of 22 degrees and is a rarity in several parts of the world. Tourists have the option of renting lycra swim suits if they are not having one in their personal trousseau. The more common varieties of fish are aplenty but the better bets are for clown fish, bearded tiger, spotted silver angelfish, and sweet lips. The large Amphiprion, which often finds a place in the local delicacies, is found in large schools at a depth of over 100 meters balow land surface. The biggest entity of the fish community, the blue sharh is also a frequent visitor and humors tourists with its special appearances. Even the common water mammal, the dolphin visits in huge numbers in the winter from the bays of Victoria higher up in the topographical distribution.
